My Corvette : Dennis Collins

Six Vettes roll off block

By Claudio D'Andrea

Ever dream of rebuilding a classic Vette?

How about rescuing and restoring six of them? And then auctioning them all off?

Dennis Collins, whose Coffee Walk episodes air every Friday on his YouTube channel, worked with his ace mechanic on the six Vettes and brought them to auction through Bring a Trailer in late May. The cars range from 1958 to '89 models and two of them were, as Collins put it, "extremely rare."

Get ready to whet your Vette whistle because here's what went on the block:

1971 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe LS6:

This four-speed rarity, one of 188 built with a 454ci LS6 V8 and one of 130 with a Muncie M22 four-speed manual transmission for that model year, had a high bid of $55,454US which did not meet its reserve as of the end of the month. Watch the rescue video here.

1970 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe LT-1:

This four-speed model, finished in Daytona Yellow over black leather, comes with a 350ci LT-1 V8 engine and was first delivered to a Virginia dealer before it was relocated to Texas in 2007. It was acquired in March 2024 and work included a rebuilt carburetor, fuel system flushing and cleaning and new spark plugs. It sold for $66,000 U.S.

Pro-Street 1958 Chevrolet Corvette:

Selling for $41,000 U.S., this pro-street, custom-built red and white beauty came with a 383ci stroker V9 engine and TH350 three-speed automatic transmission and narrowed rear axle and limited-slip differential. Among its additions: a roll cage and B&M Pro Stick shifter, shift light, aftermarket gauges and black Procar bucket seats.

1964 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible:

In 2011, this Vette underwent a five-year restoration that included a refinished Daytona Blue exterior and rebuilt 327ci V8 engine and two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. In April 2024, the seller rebuilt the carburetor, cleaned the fuel system and replaced the brake master cylinder, wheel cylinders, wheels and tires. It sold for $62,000 U.S.

1967 Chevrolet Corvette:

Refinished in Lynndale Blue and reupholstered in white and black around 2010, there was no reserve on bidding for this convertible and it sold for $80,000 U.S. Its 327ci V8 engine and four-speed manual transmission with Positraction rear axle boasted a black vinyl removable hardtop, white convertible soft top, 15-inch Rally wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, cabin heater, chrome bumpers, retractable headlights and more.

1989 Chevrolet Corvette:

This Vette — No. 33 of 68 examples of this Corvette modified by Callaway Cars of Old Lyme, Connecticut for that model year — was finished in bright red over red leader and came powered with a twin-turbo 5.7-liter V8 engine and three-speed automatic transmission with electronic overdrive. It sold for $42,500 U.S.

"We've been chasing these all over the country," Collins says in his video.

"We rescued them, we revived them and detailed them and readied them for the next person to enjoy."
